The CREATE USB Interface
The Create USB Interface is an open source microcontroller board that can be programmed in C, BASIC, or Arduino languages. This latest version is called the CUI32Stem, which is designed to work ‘hand-in-hand’ with the GROVE prototyping system including a wide range of sensors and actuators.
The PIC is the heart of the board. It's a programmable microcontroller with 32Kbytes of flash program memory and 2kbytes of general purpose SRAM. It has 13 A/D inputs and 18 general purpose I/O ports. On the CUI board, one of the general purpose I/O pins is dedicated to the "program" button to enter bootloading mode. You can use the remaining ports for anything you wish.

"There is one point to make about the layout that you should always keep in mind when developing a circuit with a microcontroller or other programmable device; you should always design the circuit in such a way that the chip can be pulled easily. This means that there should be space at either end for prying the chip up out of its socket or, as I like to do, slide a small screwdriver underneath the PICMicro and "pop" it up simply by twisting it. Wouter van Ooijen runs VOTI is an engineer who has worked on many software and systems projects. He has a Webshop with PIC Parts and Kits. His PIC FAQ and "blink a LED using one of these flash PICmicro controller" is great for beginners.
A circuit that generates a voltage that rises slowly from 0 to 10 Volt and (when a switch is flipped) slowly back to 0. The request did not pose much restriction on the wave form, but a rise / fall time of 30 minutes should be possible.
I got a mail question, which i logged here Long Duration Linear Sweep or Ramp Generator. The above project could be an neat answer.

These are many projects you can try out with Microchip PIC. Code and schematics are there. You can build it then start tweaking or altering the code and later modify circuit. This is another way of learning. You must be sound in building analog and logic circuits first.
This is the order of learning ..
- Learn to use Batteries, LEDs, Wires, Switches, Soldering Iron and Resistors.
- Build some projects with NPN and PNP transistors with capacitors.
- Try some Toy Transmitters and Receivers using RF devices and Inductors.
- Fix some power supplies like Transformers, Diodes, Regulators.
- Configure small Analog Amplifiers and also Audio Amplifiers, 555 Timer.
- Test out some LOGIC circuits with the 40xx Chips like 4093, 4028.
- Start with some small PIC project or 80C51 Microcontroller.
- Make a SOC with DSP and build a Robot Brain controlled Online.
- Get a Patent quick !
