Read Humidity and Temperature on PC

Would you like to view the Relative Humidity RH or The Temperature of your Room, This project will enable you to get these values into the PC on the Serial Port or what you may know as the RS232 port. This project is designed by Peter H. Anderson.

A High humidity like 90% is seen after a Rainfall, A low Humidity like 25% means dry days. A humidity of around 50% is healthy, above that Bugs and Fungus trouble. Less that 40% cause skin and breathing irritations. 60% is comfortable for us and  most equipment. High humidity can cause trouble to unprotected electronics.

This device has a serial interface, that means you could use a Serial to USB circuit and even interface with your Android tablet.

"This is an assembled unit which interfaces with a PC COM port and provides the capability of measuring the relative humidity and temperature using a Sensirion SHT-71 sensor. It includes an assembled printed circuit board, a 12 VDC wall power unit, and a six foot serial cable (DB9) . The unit interfaces with a COM port or similar at 9600 baud. (A USB to RS232 converter may be used)."

SHT71 - Digital Humidity and Temperature Sensor

Replaceable relative humidity sensor, The internal calibration allows for simple and easy replacement in demanding environments. The capacitive humidity sensor SHT71 is fully calibrated and provides a digital output.

Learn on Gadget Hacks and Making Things

A Typical Hardware Hobby Enthusiast is a Hacker when he starts learning, it is sometimes given the name of reverse engineering in another context. The Hardware Hobby Freelance hacker is better off, he is doing it for Learning and Education. Students should be given new and challenging projects in well equipped labs, to augment their skills and make them productive in their jobs from day one.

Hobby DIY Electronics and Making Things at delabs

We all learn by breaking up things, to see how it works, then Fix things around Home etc. Later Create and Innovate perhaps, thats the way to go. To Invent something someday.

Here are some people doing just that, inspire you to create useful things for your Home. We should never become over dependent on others for everything, this will erode our knowledge base, skills and freedom.

Potentiometers are used in circuits, when it is necessary to alter the resistance. Dark/light and temperature sensors usually have these components, as the potentiometer / variable resistor allows the circuit to be made more or less sensitive (they can be turned up or down - reducing or increasing resistance).
